Storyline:
I.O.U.S.A. examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. As the Baby Boomer generation prepares to retire, will there even be any Social Security benefits left to collect? Burdened with an ever-expanding government and military, increased international competition, overextended entitlement programs, and debts to foreign countries that are becoming impossible to honor, America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions. Throughout history, the American government has found it nearly impossible to spend only what has been raised through taxes. The film blends interviews with both average American taxpayers and government officials to demystify the nation's financial practices and policies. The film follows U.S. Comptroller General David Walker as he crisscrosses the country explaining America's unsustainable fiscal policies to its citizens...

This movie is a very excellent way to portray how the economy is truly performing. We see the signs all around us from the high gas prices to the price of groceries being astronomical. In my city, there are people who have to make the choice between getting a gallon of milk and a gallon of gas. This clearly shows our economy is out of control. Our federal and personal spending is WAY!!!! above the limit. I saw the movie and came home and established a budget for my household. This is must see, I have recommended the movie to so many others, because movies like this one oftentimes don't get enough praise. We as Americans, have to take the blinders off and stand up for our future and our children's future.

Did you know that the government has over-spent $184,000 for every man, woman, and child in the country? That your family owes over $90,000 in Federal debt (in addition to whatever else you may owe)? That there are already instances of "financial warfare" in which countries have used debt leverage to achieve military aims? This movie is a wake-up call and a call to action that EVERYONE needs to see. The government is spending future generations money and putting our country in a position that has -- and will continue to -- put our nation's security in jeopardy. Please see this movie and spread the word!

Finally respected non-partisan experts tell us how it is! America needs to wake up to our financial situation. Everyone should see this movie - but it is especially important for young people. We are inheriting the problems that past generations have piled on us by continuing to spend more than we have. If you think we are going to do better than our parents - think again! The tough times have only just begun. We need to educate ourselves on the issues and demand that our politicians start making the tough decisions necessary to get our country back on track. This movie is a great wake-up call and is actually entertaining at the same time. You won't regret seeing this film.

This is among a number of important works designed to wake us from a deep and deadly 'slumber' and lethargy that Americans and many of the worlds common folk have fallen into. I.O.U.S.A. deals directly with our economic woes and the tragic mismanagement that has gripped Americans, their system of exchange, and the very "leadership" that we have entrusted to guide us. This film and others like it must be embraced in order that we encourage these very capable and skilled film makers to bring to our mind's eye and attention what the main stream media and our distracted government is choosing to both suppress and deny. This is a sobering accounting of the travesty that has befallen our great nation as a result of an absence of leadership, governmental and public irresponsibility and a general and widespread condition of deep personal and collective unconsciousness that is at the root of this mess we are in. Do see this movie and recommend it to as many friends and associates as you can.

This movie is not biased tward the left or right of the political spectrum, it simply is the truth about the level of debt this nation is in, and the economic crisis we as a people face. While most Americans prefer not to concentrate on facts and figures, this movie makes a compelling arguement for not only becoming politically active and demanding more fiscal responsibility of your elected leaders, but for every American to take some fiscal responsibility of thier own. Stop treating your homes like piggy banks and treat them like homes, spend money that you have, not credit, and save some cash in the bank. Its basic Economics 101, "There is no such thing as a freelunch." The worst part about this movie is that I saw it on Friday, August 29th, in a huge theater with only about twenty people in total, while the prior night 80,000 people jam packed a football stadium to here Barack Obama give a Speech with 29 lines of promises and 2 lines about how he will pay for those promises.
